Penelope is an architectural historian and historic landscape specialist with ten years of experience. Trained as a landscape architect, her work has focused on the built environment of the American West and Southwest. Her interests include underrepresented communities, vernacular architecture, streetscapes, and horticultural histories. In the course of her work, she has demonstrated knowledge and expertise in historical research, writing, architectural history, and cultural landscape analysis. Penelope has used these skills for a wide range of project types in the Western United States, on behalf of both public and private institutions.
In support of project goals, Penelope has written historic building and cultural landscape reports, prepared National Register of Historic Places determination of eligibility reports, Historic Preservation Certification Applications, Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) documentation reports, and other documentation forms for state and local register nominations. She has also written and illustrated residential historic district design handbooks. Penelope exceeds NPS Qualifications Standards for History and Architectural History.
